The narrative is intentionally unsound, juxtaposing social attitudes toward mental health and the state of democracy in Cape Verde with references to Portuguese historical events. The flowers—which used to adorn the dinner table in my parents' living room—evoke memories of my childhood domestic environment, where Cape Verdean Creole and Portuguese cultural codes intertwined.
The text was written simultaneously in Portuguese and English. The English version is more rational, while the Portuguese version is more emotional, reflecting my conscious relationship with both languages.
